N Chandrababu Naidu’s Commitment To Eliminating Violence Against Women In AP
During N. Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the government displayed a steadfast commitment to the comprehensive development of society, including a strong focus on eliminating violence against women and promoting their welfare. Under his leadership, the Andhra Pradesh government introduced several pioneering initiatives to safeguard women’s rights and create a safer and more empowering environment for women across the state. Furthermore, 30 dedicated centres were set up by the TDP leaders to provide accommodation and training to orphaned women, working women, and elderly women. These centres became essential in offering refuge, skill development, and support to women in vulnerable situations. N Chandrababu Naidu government also encouraged non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to contribute to these efforts. NGOs were provided grants to establish and operate additional facilities, including short-term shelters, daycare centres, and ambulatory medical services for elderly women. In total, 215 NGOs actively collaborated with the government to improve the well-being of women. An inclusive TDP scheme named ‘SwayamSiddha’ was introduced to enhance women’s self-reliance and empowerment by increasing their access to the state’s resources. This TDP development involved 3,800 groups in 38 selected blocks, promoting economic, social, and community development activities at the village level. These groups collectively saved an impressive Rs. 50.12 lakhs, showing the effectiveness of this empowerment initiative.
On the family welfare front, the TDP Government undertook significant steps to support widows and families in distress. Poor widows received a monthly pension of Rs. 1.27 lakhs, providing a crucial lifeline for their financial stability. Additionally, under the Family Welfare Scheme, the government provided Rs. 10,000 in financial assistance to families in case of the death of a breadwinner, easing their economic burdens during challenging times.
