The public continues to be at risk from legionnaire’s disease in today’s modern environment. At an American Legion meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1976, the first epidemic was discovered. Of those impacted, 221 passed away during the outbreak. In the US, this caused widespread fear among the populace and media. Subsequently, widespread outbreaks have been observed globally.
